Alissa L. Van Horn, Esq.
From Courtrooms to Classrooms:
A Journey of Advocacy and Innovation
In 2015, Alissa began teaching CLE’s for various companies locally and nationally. After speaking on multiple panels and lecturing on various family, matrimonial and law practice management topics, Alissa realized that she had a knack for engaging the audience with real life examples. Alissa, with the assistance of her partner, Meredith Friedman, soon developed a new way to present the material that became increasingly
popular amongst more than 6 local and national CLE companies. Alissa and Meredith recognized that the audience became more engaged when they demonstrated the lessons with real-life simulations, while also ensuring that the seminars were humorous, practical and fun. Thus, the Interactive CLE model was born.
Alissa was admitted to practice law in New York in 2006, and since such time, she has dedicated her career to family and matrimonial matters. In 2010, she opened the doors to her first law firm, and by 2015, Meredith and Alissa partnered to form Van Horn & Friedman, P.C. Alissa was previously an associate of Rosin Steinhagen Mendel in New York, NY, a boutique family law firm, where she primarily focused on adoption and foster care litigation for more than three years. Prior to that, Alissa and Meredith began their careers at a small general practice law firm.
Alissa is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Family Law Chapter, the Suffolk County Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association.
Alissa is licensed to practice law in New York, Connecticut and the United States Supreme Court. Alissa has a juris doctor from Widener University School of Law, and obtained her undergraduate degree in Public Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.
Alissa is the recipient of various awards throughout her career, including being named Top Women Faculty for LawLine, Top 50 Women in Business, 2021 Attorney of the Year and Power Women in Business, to name a few.
