How LaToya Helped Redefine CLE
LaToya James is a graduate of Hofstra University School of Law. She began her exceptional legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County, New York. During her years of public service, Ms. James distinguished herself as a champion for Child Abuse and Domestic Violence victims. She ultimately retired as a Senior Assistant District Attorney and founded a groundbreaking virtual law firm, The James Firm, in 2013. LaToya focuses her practice in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Defense, Guardianships and Surrogates matters.
Ms. James serves as a member of the Executive Board of the Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association, a member of the Judicial Screening committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association, Co-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion committee of the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association and a member of the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association. Ms. James is the consulting attorney for Long Island Against Domestic Violence and serves as a member of many committees within the Unified Court system which seek to empower and promote the rights of women, people of color and persons with disabilities.
Ms. James is the recipient of numerous accolades including the Excellence in Empowering Women Award and the Hon. Toni Bean Award. LaToya’s activism on behalf of victims and survivors of Domestic Violence has been recognized by the Suffolk County Executive and Legislature. Her philanthropic endeavors have earned her recognition from the New York City Council, the New York State Assembly, and the United States Congress.
Most recently, Attorney James was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for volunteerism from President Joseph R. Biden.
